My Power My Way - Pay What You Want, When You Want

What if paying your electric bill was like buying gas for your vehicle? Now, it can be. MLEC introduces My Power My Way, a prepay energy solution.

Traditionally, people receive a utility bill at the end of the month for electricity they used in the past 30 days. My Power My Way works the other way. The program allows you to choose how much and how often you want to pay before you use the electricity.

What is prepay billing?

Think of My Power My Way like putting gas in your car. You pay for it before you use it. You can purchase small amounts every few days or “fill up” the tank and not worry about it for several weeks. When your supply is low, you simply purchase more.

How does it work?

You purchase electricity before you use it. Payment can be made when you want – over the phone or in person at an MLEC office. When your account runs low, you will get an alert by phone, text or e-mail (your choice), letting you know it’s time to recharge your account.

What if my account runs out?

If funds in your account run out, electrical service is automatically disconnected. You will be notified by phone, text or e-mail (your choice) that service has been disconnected. You can purchase more power by calling or visiting your local MLEC office. Your power will be restored within 30 minutes, without paying a late or reconnection fee. 

Who can participate in the program?

My Power My Way is open to MLEC residential accounts.

Is prepay the right choice for me?

Would it be easier for you to make weekly or biweekly payments rather than one large payment each month?
Prepay works best for people who want to take control of their electric accounts and energy usage. By monitoring consumption on a regular basis, you begin to notice patterns in day-to-day usage. Any variation from this pattern, such as a house guest (increase) or a vacation (decrease), will become evident as you monitor your account. The program also saves money! Statistics indicate prepay electricity programs help lower electric consumption due to a member’s awareness of usage patterns.

What fees and charges apply?

A monthly prepay fee of $9.00 will be added to all participating accounts. A security deposit will not be required. Accounts must start with a $50 credit balance to enroll for My Power My Way. If the account reaches a zero balance and disconnects, a $25 credit balance is required for reconnection.
